Growing new Ligament tissue

Success has been reported from Smith & Nephew, in tissue engineering and the creation of new anterior cruciate ligament material and moniscus ( tissue between the cartilage and knee). Damage to these areas always causes problems as neither tissue will repair naturally. The aim of the new research is to restore normal function. It was technically difficult, particularly for a load bearing area such as this, however, the in vitro results have proved encouraging.
